The Mary D. Sheriff Research and Travel Prize
HECAA and ASECS invite early career scholars working on a feminist topic in
eighteenth-century art history or visual or material culture broadly defined to apply for
the Mary D. Sheriff Research and Travel Prize.

The award amount is $2,000.

In order to be eligible, the applicant must be a current member of ASECS or of HECAA
who is a doctoral candidate or an early career scholar (for example an untenured
professor, contingent faculty member, or beginning museum professional).

To apply submit as a single pdf: a cv; a 750-word description of the proposed project
including a 1-2 line summary of how the funds will be used; a simple separate budget.
Address submissions to: hecaamembers@gmail.com by February 6, 2026. The prize
will be presented at the HECAA All Members Meeting. The recipient will be asked to
submit a short report detailing their use of the funds.

The Prize honors Mary D. Sheriff, leader in the field of eighteenth-century feminist art
history, valued educator and mentor, founding member of HECAA, and longtime
member of ASECS, and co-editor of Eighteenth-Century Studies.

No applicant may accept more than one ASECS grant or fellowship in any given year.
Winners of ASECS Travel Awards and Fellowships are required to mention the award in
