The following email went out to current and last year’s members.
Dec. 20, 2023
I hope this message finds you all well as we enter into the holiday season and hopefully a season of rest and refreshment for many of you.
At this link, you will find the ASECS Fall News Circular, which includes the President’s and Executive Director’s columns, information about the Executive Board election slate, Annual Meeting information, as well as a variety of useful and important information for members and affiliates.
Included in the News Circular, you will also find two In Memoriam items, one for George Haggerty and one for Joan DeJean, two outstanding and award-winning ASECS members who are already greatly missed.
It is with great sorrow that I bear the sad news as well of the losses of three other giants in our field: Robert D. Hume, J. Paul Hunter, and J.G.A. Pocock. Each has left an indelible mark on our field as extraordinary scholars, mentors, teachers, and ASECS members and leaders. They will be much missed, and we hope to include separate In Memoriam items for them in future news circulars. For now, I hope you will join me in conveying condolences to their colleagues, students, families, and loved ones.
Again, I wish you all the best for a Happy New Year—may it be filled with more peace and less strife.
Lisa A. Freeman
ASECS President, 2023-2024
