DEADLINE EXTENDED: Friday, November 22
The African Studies Association (ASA) and American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS) are thrilled to announce the joint 2025 18th-Century Africa Publication Fellowships. Thanks to generous funding from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), ASECS and ASA have jointly designed a one-year fellowship to engage early career scholars from groups who have been systematically excluded, marginalized, or otherwise neglected in their fields or disciplines.
In 2025, the two Associations will be offering joint conference and publication opportunities to which students and recent graduates (within 5-years of graduation) can submit paper proposals. Applicants are invited to submit paper proposals related to Africa and its Diasporas in the 18th Century. Selected participants will attend the ASECS conference virtually to present their paper, and receive feedback from a designated mentor. Participants will then revise the paper, and workshop the revisions at the ASA Annual Meeting Publishing Workshop in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellows will have a final opportunity to present at the ASA Annual Meeting and should plan to submit for publication review by January 2026.
Paper Proposal
The paper abstract should consist of a statement about the topic, the nature and extent of the research on which the paper is based, and a brief summary of the main argument(s) (a maximum of 200 words).
